Thanks for the info Don. It looks like the crosshatching on the chip also get impressed into the metal insert. Is that possible - perhaps with thin aluminum it would happen. If that were the case I would think this chip came from the factory just as is - but without the wear.

Do you suppose the metal inserts were blank when put into the chip and the denomination press into them in the same process as the rest of the chip design?
