Moneymaker wore sunglasses. so people started doing that. then people started seeing more and more on TV where people would wear the hoodies, wear a hat pulled low, listening to their freaking I-Pods so loud they can't hear what the action is and always have to stop and ask if it's their turn or what the bet is, etc.
it's kind of funny though. if you've ever read Joe Navarro's book on physical tells or heard him give interviews, he's quick to point out that generally speaking, the eyes don't really give off that much information compared to the rest of your face and neck so just wearing sunglasses doesn't really do much. People who wear glasses have said they don't do it to keep opponents from seeing their eyes per se, but they do it so they can look at their opponent out of the corner of their eyes and their opponent won't know they're looking at them.
when I play, I hate wearing a hat, I've never worn sunglasses, and on the rare occasions that I listen to my ipod, it's at a low enough volume that I can still hear everything and I only put one earbud in. I've put both earbuds in with the volume off before to either A) get the guy next to me to stop talking or B) pretend I'm listening to something while still listening to my opponents talk thinking I can't hear them.
