A couple of years after Gene visited the riverboat at the Hilton, New Orleans, there was a serious incident of a freighter that lost power on the Mississippi and narrowly missed colliding with the Queen of New Orleans. A couple of passengers jumped from the boat in panic and there were serious injuries.
