This thread got me interested in these old chips. Pictured below is a complete set of 13 club chips, so you will see what the 13 different ranks look like. I have a lot of these chips, and none of them are "jokers," which isn't to say that none were made. Often players would throw the jokers away in an ordinary deck of cards. All the Kings have a scepter and crown. All the Jacks have a regular hat and a battle axe.
I have 108 of the 156 possible different combinations (3 colors of chips x 13 different ranks x 4 suits = 156). I have 17 reds, 39 blues and all 52 possible whites.
I don't think they are paste-ons now. At first I had assumed that they were stickers for kids to play with. Because they stick on so well (none have lifting cards/inlays), I think they were factory put on when the chips were made!
