So firstly, if you dont seem to have any problems just skip this post
COOKIES are usually the main source of problems. Its quite possible that some users missed the initial instructions or created their latest cookies during DNS transitions. Now that everything is stable and permanent redirections put in place for people with ancient links in their favorites that havnt found us yet, you may want to check your cookies are correct. Most simple way to do that is to click on the 'Mark All Messages Read' tab and ensure that all the red 'NEW' tags disappear, and the message at the top says there are no new posts since your last visit.
If it works, skip down to the next red instruction.
If it doesnt work then you may have a cookie problem. First thing you need to do is remove the old cookie(s). If you are using Internet Explorer there is a way to do this without losing other cookies:
Select 'Tools'->'Internet Options' from your IE menu bar.
Click the 'Browing History - Settings' button.
Click the 'View Files' button and scroll down until you see the files that begin "cookie: @..."
Scroll down (should be in alpha order) and look for any and all cookies that look like the list below and DELETE them:
"cookie: @chipboard.davidspragg..."
"cookie: @slotcardbbs.davidspragg..."
"cookie: @strikepoint.davidspragg..."
"cookie: @thechipboard.davidspragg..."
"cookie: @thestrikepoint.davidspragg..."
"cookie: @www.chipboard.davidspragg..."
"cookie: @www.slotcardbbs.davidspragg..."
"cookie: @www.strikepoint.davidspragg..."
"cookie: @www.thechipboard.davidspragg..."
"cookie: @www.thestrikepoint.davidspragg..."
DO NOT DELETE any similar ones that DONT have the 'davidspragg' within them. They are either ok already or will be updated in the next stage. If you dont have any that look correct then the next stage will re-create them.
If you are NOT able to do the above, or use a different browser, then you will probably have to 'delete all cookies'.
URLs to access the bb's
You should preferably only be accessing the bb's via the following URLs (note the 'www.' is optional)
http://www.thechipboard.com
http://www.thestrikepoint.com
http://www.slotcardbbs.com
If your saved favorites are going anywhere different, then update them to those above.
If at this point everything is functioning ok you may close this message
If you got to here and still have some problems, then continue as below.
'My Preferences'
Go to 'My Preferences' and enter your details exactly how you want them. If you have (or think you have) a working 'Profile' then use the same details (cAse SensItiVE). Save the details.
IF you get a password error, then skip and click on 'My Profile' instead.
If no profile appears then you have an old conflicting profile in the database. Contact me through the trouble ticket link and I will delete the offending profile. Then come back and continue.
If the profile appears, there is a link to recover your password. Click it and the system will send you an email with a temporary password. WAIT for that email before continuing. You can or course then use the temporary password to change your password to whatever you wanted in the first place. If you dont get the email then that means your email address in the profile was not valid. Contact me via the trouble ticket again.
IF the details wont save then you still have even older profile(s) in the system. Contact me to delete them.
Once youve satisfactorily saved your preferences, close your browser and reopen it (in case there were any temporary files cached from earlier visits since you last closed it). Check your preferences again and they should still be there. If not, you didnt follow something correctly above
'My Profile'
Assuming everything else this far is now working:
If you dont have a profile and want one, then click on 'My Profile' and follow the instructions, using the exact same data as your preferences. If you get stuck at this point, you should be able to match it to one of the solutions already given above in this post. Please try them before contacting me, I dont want another 150 queries today if I can help it, Im short of sleep this week
I appreciate not everyone wants a profile, and you dont need one to post. However, there are more features available to you if you do have one, including some not yet made active, so regular users are encouraged to (even if you just leave the 'info' box blank in the profile)
