David Spragg posted a message (I think yesterday) that suggests the attacks are via people who use facebook - once the virus gets you, it visits the address book and sends the email to all emails. It doesn't need the recipients to use facebook, just the original owner (in this case Richard) and for the recipients to be in the owner's ordinary address book.
From what I can tell, that means that it isn't just this BB, but fortunately because we all act as a 'club', we are able to warn others quickly. It must be more of an issue for, say, the recipients of the email who are close friends and family - if they can't get hold of (in this case) Richard, they may fall for the scam.
Fortunately for me (no so for the scammers) I don't have 3,000 Euros spare
