The netbook is like taking a regular laptop \ notebook and reducing the specs on everything it can do sort of like making it 3 years old instantly. For example, as compared to a current notebook, the netbook it will have less ram, less hard drive space, slower processor, smaller screen, less capable graphics & video processing...I think if you already have a notebook in good condition this is a good thing to have for an extra device to carry around for smaller tasks but I do not recommend a netbook as a primary machine.
Many people might find that spending a little more for a real notebook is the best value.
For those that only visit 3 different websites including email, and don't deal with a lot of media, or any heavy software other than whatever comes on the thing from the factory, than than the notebook is probably fabulous. I am a computer programmer, and I do not own a netbook because I have a desktop and carry my work notebook everywhere. My boss returned his netbook the first week out of frustration but he needs much more performance than an average user.
I hope this helps,
Dave
