The reason he wants you to cancel, or sometimes called a mutual agreement to end the transaction. Is to recover his selling fees. Ebay charges the seller the fees regardless if the buyer pays or not. The only way to recover the fees is an unpaid item dispute (which he cannot due since he has no item anymore) or a mutual agreement to cancel the transaction. I would ignore his request and make him pay the fees as punishment. And not leave any type of feedback.
