You made some interesting points. The ACCCC should look to expand its focus with the opening of casinos in nearby states. The ACCCC needs to care of some legal business as far as its incorporation and this could be the right time to do it.
In response to some of the other posts on this topic:
When we were the AC chapter of the CCGTCC, we were the largest chapter with close to 300 members and around 100 to 125 regularly attending meetings. When the CCGTCC dropped the chapters, we became the 2nd largest club, after the CCGTCC itself. We currently have about 250 members, which includes regular and associate members.
Many years ago, some individuals ran weekend shows in the AC area, actually Ocean City. The shows did not have enough traffic to be a success, mainly due to bad weather, and were not continued. The ACCCC has never "shot down" any requests to run a weekend show. They have not occurred because:
1) No one with a reasonable plan has stepped up to run such an event. Everyone thinks it is a good idea, but no one has yet to figure out how to make it work. In fact, no one has ever presented a plan to the ACCCC board, only casual ideas. To have a reasonable plan, you need dates, locations, costs, availability and expected results.
2) It is difficult to find a location to host an event at reasonable rates. Most AC casino hotels are booked full on the weekends all year round and get $300+ per night for a hotel room making it too expensive for out of town dealers and collectors. Having a show at a casino/hotel on the Boardwalk would be ideal, but it is not economically practical.
The ACCCC board is willing to support a show that has a reasonable chance for success. But someone needs to step up and do the ground work to come up with a plan and then coordinate all the necessary activities to put on the show. Is anyone volunteering?
