You're right... there are letters in the hats, but definitely not in the smooth areas. I don't know why that should be, but I lightened up the scan and there are no NCV letters outside the hats.

And the hats are definitely shiny. I didn't call them Christy and Jones, but they are as shiny as any C&J I've seen.
