Here is am email from a Former Caesars Palace Security Officer I received today.
Very interesting - I had to share it with some of you who might care!
"I had the good fortune to live (and work) in
Vegas for 8 1/2 years before moving back to Texas late last year.
Now to the reason for this e-mail.
I had the good fortune to work in Security at Caesars Palace for the whole time I was there (1992-1999).
On your pages concerning (specifically) Caesars chips, you have some
excellent information. On page "caesars2.htm" you question if the date
for the Magical Empire chip was a misprint. As I recall, the Magical
Empire was originally scheduled to open in January of '96, but because
of "technical" difficulties, did not actually open until July. The chip
was approved by Gaming Control and produced in late '95, before the
realization that they wouldn't be able to open as planned. On page
"caesars3.htm" you say that "Caesars never canceled any of their chips
and all can still be cashed in." Maybe I don't understand exactly what
you mean by canceled, but in late '93 or early '94 we (security) did a
complete chip change from the "old" style chips to the current style
that are still on the tables. As you probably know, several casinos have
large denomination chips that you don't cover on your web page. Caesars
has the obvious "black" ($100); a "white" ($500); a "yellow" ($1,000);
and what we called a "chocolate" ($5,000). My question pertains
specifically to the "white" Caesars chip. Within a couple of weeks of
the chip change I was involved in, the casino discovered that the
Caesars white $500 chip was being confused with a DI promotional (No
Value) white chip that was in circulation at the time, to the extent
that some of the dealers (just seeing the "white") had actually accepted
and made change for these no value DI chips. Caesars immediately placed
an emergency order for new chips, and within another week we were again
changing out the $500 chips used on the regular tables, not for another
"white" chip, but a "light purple" $500 chip. The white $500 Baccarat
chips were allowed to stay, since they were larger in diameter than the
table chips and thus not readily confused. We (security, cashiers and
dealers) continued to refer to the $500 chips as "whites" so as not to
confuse them with a very limited special "purple" $20,000 (Yes, I do
mean Twenty Thousand dollars) chip that was used in the Palace Court
Casino (the casino for the REALLY high-rollers). This chip was so
special that we had only ONE guest that was authorized to use them and
that was Kerry Packer (I'm sure you've heard of him). To the best of my
knowledge, these "purple" chips have not been used since 1995 when Mr
Packer got "ticked" at Caesars and left saying that he'd never return.
When I left Caesars in November of 1999, he had kept that promise (I
happened to be the Officer assigned to the Palace Court the last night
that he played there and was witness to the fiasco on Caesars part).
I hope I haven't bored you with all of this, but again, I'm not
certain if Caesars would still cash one of these particular white $500
chips or not."
Sincerely,
