I understand David's position and also Brian's frustration. While David might be correct in saying that Brian should honor the $36 bid my question is what happened to all the bids between $36.00 and the withdrawn bid of $61.88.

Lets look at this scenario a $100 live chip is posted for auction at no reserve.Bidder No1 bids $1.00 Bidder No2 bids $2 the bidding goes back and forth and ends at $150. There are only 2 bidders and the winning bidder withdraws his bid. Would the seller be obligated to honor the first bid and deliver the item for $1 ? Perhaps.... Would you think it was fair?
OR should the item be delivered for the next highest bid considering that the 2nd winning bidder had intent to pay that amount anyway?
