In the late 1980's, around 1987, my two best friends and I decided to drive to Vegas for the first time and see what it was about. We hopped in a car, got a pamphlet on how to play craps, which we read on the trip there and headed East from LA. We stayed at Vegas World on a deal that gave us a bunch of free goodies for a small price. Included were a bunch of free tokens and chips. The tokens fed into special slot machines that were not supposed to pay off. For me, they didn't. For 1 friend, they did, a bit and the third hit pretty well. All in all, we were paid out more than the face value of the tokens. I'm sure that didn't happen often. Also, we were given a stack of orange chips. We thought they were just $5 chips. We decided to play most at craps and some at blackjack. We found out immediately that they were special chips. If you won, you got a house $5 chip (the red ones). If you lost, you lost. For the most part, when we won, we kept the house chip and didn't bet it, using only the ncv's. Well, I did quite well at the craps table and my friends each did just fine. In the end, we had enough for the price of the room for 3 days and plenty left over for food, including two days of the breakfast buffet at Caesar's Palace. We considered it quite the spread at the time. We had an incredible time and went back, well, a few times. I now know that Vegas World had 3 types of these orange ncv chips. Two are above and I have never seen the third. I really believe we used the top one. Something in the back of my brain recognized that big 5 on one side. But, I can't really be sure. So, I would keep one of those two chips.
It would be really hard to give up on some of my Aruba chips, though.
Nice chip show category, Erik!
