Jim, you're right - mostly.
Whether Raft actually "owned" the Capri in Havana and the Colony Club in London is questionable, but he was certainly the front man.
The original question, as you pointed out, comes from Gene "Newrack" Trimble, who was asking what Raft movie the fake Capri chips were used in. Frankly, I'm not at all sure it was a Raft movie.
These chips surfaced from a guy in Hollywood who has been associated with the motion picture industry, a few years ago. They were originally represented to be "real" Capri chips, and I frankly doubt that he knew the difference. In those days, Cuban chips were just beginning to surface here, and they were commanding astronomical prices.
It became evident that the chips were actually from a closed Lake Tahoe casino and from a casino in Ecuador for which chips were made but not used, as near as we can tell. The Capri inlays were actually paste-on labels, and we now believe that they were used as movie props. Question is, what movie?
My own theory is that they were made to be used in the casino scenes in "The Godfather, Part Two." In fact, I've written to Francis Ford Coppolla, and have asked him to let us know whether that's the case. I haven't heard back from him, unfortunately.
If I do, everyone will know the story!
