While I've posted this previously, the Tull C. Lasswell on this Taylor & Co. order card was my Grandfather! Springfield is my home town. These chips were destined to be used in an illegal operation he was setting up at a downtown hotel. Unfortunately, he died just weeks away from opening the place, which was intended to be a bit of a play area for the politicians, as it was just a block or two away from the State Capital Building.
He owned the hotel and gaming (at least craps) was set-up in the basement. He died the same year as this delivery, which was before I was born by about 5 years. His oldest daughter (now deceased) had a rack of the yellow chips (now mine). His oldest son, who used to deal craps for him at another place he had previous to this planned operation, was an attorney and had 3 stacks (one of each color) glued together as a paper weight that sat on his desk until his death some years back. His son (my cousin) pried one of each color off the stacks and sent them to me. (They are the ones in this scan.)
I'm hoping that my Grandfather's other son (also deceased) had additional boxes of these chips that might have been passed on to one of my other cousins.
