I Can't Believe the Excalibur Turned 20
In Response To: Ricky Pushkin... ()

Funny story, in 1990 I had just turned 21, and since that was before wife, kids, job, obligations, etc. spur of the moment I jump in my 1989 Hyundai Excel and decide to drive the 5 hours to Vegas.

Temps were near 100 even at 9:00 a.m. in the morning, and my piece of crap Excel overheats and I'm stranded somewhere near Baker.

Finally AAA arrives (this was before cell phones) and tows me to the Fletcher Jones Hyundai near Arizona Charlies on Decatur.

Turns out the head gasket had blown and it would take a week to fix.

Not knowing what to do, I call my parents and find out from them my Aunt and Uncle were IN Las Vegas staying at the Excalibur for their grand opening first weekend.

Aunt and Uncle pick me up and take me to dinner..then we go to the Excalibur.

I then proceeded to go on a heater in Blackjack that was incredible..I think I won something like 28 out of 30 hands. Long story short, I win enough money to pay for the 100+ mile tow (luckily the car was under warranty), a flight back home, another flight a week later to pick up the car, and still had some money leftover.

The funny thing is, that was the last time I have been to the Excalibur..
