Just got these, mixed in with a very old batch of bone counters. They are about 3/4" in diameter, and the inserts seem like leather? They are the same on both sides, so they can't be buttons like they first appeared to be.

Does anyone know if these are chips of some kind of gambling counter? There is a very similar looking piece in Dale Seymour's book, at the top center of last color plate.
