Yeas. Steve called it to my attention when I was ~

~~~ selling te GC chips; that's when I turned to the 8 colors in Howdy's photos.. 1994.

About chips in a damp place; I've seen this several times... and, when stored flat under dry conditions, as much as 1/2 inch of the edge would be flat. Flat enough to stand on edge.

I've seen both oil and salt water be absorbed by clay composition chips. A perfect example is the "W" die-cut chips where the inlays on hundreds of chips popped. They were stored in The Keys for many years; same with die-cut metal inlay (Kentucky Club) chips; all inlays popped on at least 200 chips that absorbed water and yet on other metal die-cuts the red examples turned pink while the inlays remained. Strange things happen. grin
