Ernie, why would you want to remove it?

I can see if a kid was just doodling on a chip . . . bad kid! Go to your room with no Brussal Sprouts for dinner tonight!

But what if the number/letter was applied by the casino for some purpose? Revaluing the chip, buy-in for a tournament, promo chip - that sort of thing. In which case, you'd want to preserve the "overprint," no? I have several chips of that sort - the Dog House where the casino desperately needed to convert fractonal chips into dollar or five-dollar gaming pieces for a tournament - Diamond Tooth Gertie because she couldn't get the right denomination chips delivered to the Yukon in time - those sort of things.
