Re: Tunica trip report vol. 2
In Response To: Tunica trip report vol. 1 ()

I had a chance to make a run late this morning to the other 4 remaining casinos in Tunica. I got to tell ya that this place is dying. There is no traffic on the road at all, all of the strip malls that they built 10 or 15 years ago are empty and the casinos have few if any customers. I think they do a nice business on the weekends but it has to be hard to support a 24/7 business on just two days a week. In any case on to the report. None of the casinos have any new chips.

First stop was Sams Town which had 6 cars in the outside parking lot. Table games are closed Monday and Tuesday. I did find one very pleasant surprise. They have some great video poker. You can play multi game machines that at 1 cent bet pays 9/5 for jacks or better. They pay 9/6 for $.25 bets. I have not seen that in a long time anywhere. I also saw a 10/7 machine but it only paid out 1:1 for two pair.

Hollywood, like 1st Jackpot, has removed a lot of machines and now has some very large aisles. At least they had some cars in the parking lot. Their video poker pays 5/6 up to 5/8 which kind of sucks.

Horseshoe had more cars also in the lot. There were some table games with people playing. Most of the "gimmick" games, like 3 card poker, had $5 minimums today which is not too bad. Their poker room is still open and they had two tables running. But these days everyone loves no limit which I don't play. They still have the $4 drop chips but are not normally using them. They said they sometimes bring them out during the WSOP. As is typical of Harrahs the best payout for video poker is 5/8 at $5. That really sucks.

Gold Strike still thinks that it is the best place in town since the Indians took over with their high hotel rates (well over $100 per night) and $15-$25 table minimums on Tuesday mornings. If you want to play video poker at $.25 they will give 5/6. The max I saw was 5/8.

That will do it for now. I just hope my luck gets a little better so I don't continue to not be able to win a hand this trip. Even a small win will help with the pain of the long drive home tomorrow.
