Interesting Ivory...

This Gambling Plaque was presumably on the table when the Aviation Club De France opened its doors in 1907.
It would have been a big bet at that time. The period is just before the Art Deco design style which originated
in France. You can see hints of simplicity and elegance which became tenets of Art Deco. The hand-carved wheat
patterning within the numerals is an example of early Deco. It is rare to see an ivory plaque this size. It is real
ivory, not synthetic material. The cut is with the ivory grain so you can only see the spiral pattern synonymous
with real ivory on the edge. It is Huge, larger than any other ivory plaque that I have ever seen. Additionally, it
has a three-color design fill, including silver fill which is uncommon for the time. This sucker makes a ruler look small.
