Re: Question For Barry Sherwood
In Response To: Question For Barry Sherwood ()

(Apologies in advance for any typos or grammar errors as I am using voice to text to dictate this while laying under my truck, installing fun modifications )
I’m not the one to make that decision, but since you’re asking, I will tell you that I am against it. I do not like publicly disclosed information on any website, period. That said, if a user of the CCA forums (for instance) chooses to allow their email address to be seen and a link to be displayed below their name on their posts, that’s their prerogative, and they are the ones taking the action to make that happen.

By default no one‘s address is visibly public on the forums. I’ve seen people request a club directory, and while I understand that we’d all like to be able to contact each other easily, there’s too many spammers and unscrupulous business people who will take email addresses they don’t have the right to, or scrape websites, or even grab all of the emails that are available on the chipboard And use them for personal gain. I suspect that is happened in the past, and even the recent past, and I would hope that anyone who thinks they can use loopholes to get past the spam act will rethink their actions. At the very least, they should include an unsubscribe link to let people opt out without having to reply, and be shamed for asking not to be badgered.

I’m happy to provide more reasons or have more discussions if anyone would like to do so. That said, I will not be placing any form of directory on the CCA forums, nor the website, unless the board directs me to do so. And if they do, please know that I will fight them on that decision until they’ve made it clear that’s what they want to do.
