Doug Smith & Barry Sherwood Response

Sorry you took all of this so personal. I guess the voting issue pushed a button and reminded me of how broke this club really is. Let me make something very clear to you, I appreciate everyone who has ever volunteered and did what they volunteered to do. They are the backbone of this club. My beef is with the lack of leadership, past and present. The problems our club faces did not happen overnight, it has been building for years. I have shared my thoughts over the years and have heard “If it’s not broken don’t fix it”. This club has been on automatic pilot for the last twenty years. Archie started something great, he created an organization where we could meet others who shared the same interest. He created a convention where we could visit with these new found friends and buy, sell and trade our casino collectables. He created an award winning magazine so we could all share our stories. All of this was great until the internet became a reality. Greg Susong created the chipboard and gave us all a platform to connect without attending a convention. I created four different gaming related attractions, exposing our hobby to literally millions of people over a ten year span. The MOGH was created with the hope of someday opening up a museum. The chipguide was created to document every type of gaming related memorabilia imaginable. Paul Schaffer is doing an amazing job with his social media platforms, I was honored that he asked me to participate. So what happened? After Archie a succession of poor leadership and little vision to actually continue growing in a much changed environment. As stated in my prior post, the magazine needs to go online only and made available to everyone, member or not. That is one way to grow the hobby. The money saved could be used to promote a show, not a convention. Open it up to all collectable hobbies. The CCA would be the producer of this show. Charge no admission! This would expose our hobby. The loss of gate revenue would be offset by table rentals to dealers. Give club members a slight discount on their table rentals. This would be an incentive for dealers in other collectable hobbies to join our club. All of the reasons I previously stated for joining our club are no longer valid. We need to re-invent the club and what we are trying to achieve. We need short term, mid-term and long term objectives. We should align ourselves with a nationally recognized charity, this would give us national recognition and exposure. An example could be The American Cancer Association or Tunnels to Towers. These would be fundraisers we could all relate to and want to participate in. If the gaming industry was aware of a platform such as this we could probably benefit in many ways. Half of all monies raised could go to the recognized charity and the other half could go to the club to be used for a national headquarters, this could be a long term goal. Our club could sell all sorts of collectable supplies online, at a fair price. Members could get a slight discount. This would be another incentive to join our club. We are a non-profit so making money should not be the immediate objective. We satisfy the educational part of our 501C3 with our magazine and social media platforms as well as seminars we would still have at our annual show. None of these ideas are difficult but it does take leadership to make it a reality. I have been told many times to be patient, sadly my patience is running out. This club is on life support! I have just shared a few of my ideas, most I have shared in the past with leadership only to be laughed at. As for the club website. I understand a lot of time and energy went into it and I am grateful for that but it falls short of what we need. It is not consumer friendly! In fact it is designed to keep people out. It should be just like the chipboard, just open the page and go for it. If you did that, I would advise everyone to boycott the chipboard as it will have outlived its usefulness. If Gregg was around, I know he would agree. I know this post is a little disjointed but the message is there just the same. By the way Mr. Zoesch I don’t appreciate being called a troll, I am anything but. Mr Smith has a real job to attend to so he shouldn’t waste time on this. I believe that is pretty much what you sad. Just for the record Mr Zoesch I have cancer and I shouldn’t waste time on this either. I do it because I love the club and I love the hobby. I’m sure Doug does too. Have a nice day Mr Zoesch.
