The message boards we're using are a commercial product designed and updated by "others". Thankfully, all we have to do is configure it and maintain the content (members/users, posts, etc). Thank you very much for the offer though. As it gets busier, we will need more moderators and admins, but we're good for now. We currently have 3 people on the job with me pulling most of the weight because it's not that much work (lots of small stuff) and the others have other jobs they do for the club.
But as for design, it is what it is. And coding? None needed, though I've looked at a few files of code to see HOW things are being done, discovered one bug and reported it to the developers and it turns out they already knew about it and are fixing it in the next release.
