No expert here, but for some reason I was attracted to the area. I went up to Godsprings a number of times. Once walked way out to a hill and took photos of the Sun setting over Jean. I've searched all over, I think they got lost, mixed in with the EXs stuff. BUT... there was a place for sale in Goodsprings and I watched it online. One of those cray ideas, if I had a place in Goodsprings, I could stay near Las Vegas for nearly nothing, and not have to pay the hotel fees?
Last I looked it's listed as a Ghost Town, and I wonder if the Pioneer Saloon is still open. I'd like to go there and have a cold one. I never saw the place when I was there. Oh I'll make this easier. About 5 miles West on whatever road that is, out of Jean. Hard to miss, there's only one road.
I was told in the 80s that Goodsprings was where the guards lived. Makes sense? State Prison was closed in 2008 to save money. That would help GS become a ghost town? Searching the news I see they thought of reopening in 2015. I don't see that as something that happened. Just politics.
Looking currently, "Located in Jean, Nevada, the Jean Conservation Camp was constructed in 1988 and houses 240 minimum-custody female offenders for the State of Nevada. Currently Jean Conservation Camp is the only camp within Nevada that houses female offenders."
So no state prison but there is a conservation camp. Sorry, no stale cakes in the mail.
Instead of buying the whole town of Deeth (which was for sale for $250,00 years ago, and I think it was just some nutty story) my plan is, buy the saloon in Goodsprings get a gambling license and issue annual dated chips. Of course we'd only sell from the tables, and they would be $25 LEs? (nasty mean Grinch kind of thoughts, just kidding) The chip collectors would have to come visit! Gotta have some customers from somewhere? And for sure a silver strike machine! Then see about making it the second place left on Earth that has the horse racing game.
One 21 table, everything else, electronic.
Right after I win the lottery?
