I’m sure it was a live game. Sammy was just dealing for kicks.
I remember watching Jessie Beck deal at the Riverside. I wouldn’t
be surprised if Clarence Ray had an interest in the place. He owned
property on the Westside and was involved in several clubs. He
had a club on Stewart St. across from the post office, I think it was
called the Minnesota Club. He also worked in many of the downtown
clubs. In his oral history he mentions the Ebony, Cotton, and
Chickadee clubs. His oral history is interesting reading. I wish I
had talked with him.
