Even though an email address is required to sign up for an account (your account ID), there’s a separate field in your profile for you to enter an email address IF you want people to be able to see it and email you (they click an email icon by your name). If you don’t want anyone to know your email address, simply leave that field blank in your profile. Here’s the beauty of the new system… users can direct message each other within the platform and when you receive a message from a fellow user, the system emails you with a notification but the sender never sees your email address. Nice, eh?
