No water in Pahrump so I jumped in the car headed south, about a half hour ride from Boulder City to Searchlight, and then down the hill to Lake Mojave and Cottonwood Cove . Every summer this is on my bucket list to get my butt in the water and spend the day swimming in this beautiful lake. This is a Friday afternoon and I couldn’t believe only a couple of people were enjoying the water with me. There’s a small brick motel sitting on the water that was built in the 50s by Del Webb story goes he wanted to get away from Las Vegas and he thought he could have slot machines for his guest… but even though gambling is legal in Nevada, this is federal land, part of the national recreation area, and they made them cease-and-desist. Here are some pictures you may not have seen before from Searchlight.
This last photo used to be Sandy’s casino and girlie house right across from the old El Rey Casino
If you ever go through searchlight make the turn and head east down the hill to Cottonwood Cove it’s a 14 mile drive each way but they have a coffee shop and a marina and it’s worth exploring. Thanks for reading the post. See you down the road Rich
