My Indian Springs story (greatly condensed)

One of the attorneys I work for has a client who got involved in a crooked Nevada land development scheme. After a lot of legal wrangling, he received the "model house" on the land as his compensation and settled down to the unwanted life of a real estate owner, hiring a "local" real estate manager in North Las Vegas to handle the details. It probably was the only rental house in Indian Springs. Tenants came and went, and I mentioned that some day, the owner would find the house without its copper wiring and appliances. Suffice it to say, this "came to pass." (The Bible is helpful in such situations.)

The attorney decided that I should buy the house as I was experienced in renting properties. Yes, I replied, experienced enough to keep my hands off them. At some point I was in Las Vegas for a convention or chip show, and agreed to drive to I. S. to check out the property. Which I did. Not real hard to find - not very many modern single-family dwellings in town. Found that the rest of the "luxury development" was sand lots, save for a house a block away with a totem pole in the back yard. Those must be the Indians. Anyway, I reported back that the property (at that instant) seemed to be in good hands.

Moseyed over to the Indian Springs Casino and found that it was slots-only at that point; poker being played through electronic games. Think I messed around with the slots for a few minutes ubt with no success.

The attorney later said that I should have stopped at the bar as they offer the best food in town. (And the only food, back then.) He kept pestering about buying the house, "since you have already seen it," and I kept saying no. Eventually the realtor-manager found a buyer at a steep discount and the client was off the hook.

I've heard that Creech AFB is the home of the drone controls usesd in Afghanistan. Ohhh, big secret.
