In Newport Oregon, there was a casino called the Piptide. I believe it was a nightclub/bar with cards upstairs. Anyway, the story goes that the guy who built it called it the Riptide (it's a waterfront area building). But, there was already a restaurant with that name on the outskirts of town and they objected. So, the story goes, the owner went outside with a hammer and knocked off the part of the R that then made it a P and the place was called Piptide.
After the Piptide, it was called the Apollo. They still had periodic blackjack games, but they used generic home poker chips (they had a picture of a jet fighter on them). The building has been torn down and no longer exists.
