A condensed excerpt from my trip diary :
Thursday November 15, 2012
We were on Bridge Street, in a place called Wally’s Used and Unique. It was a junk store, with a lot of used video games and stuff. We were on our way out the door, empty-handed, then spotted the corner of a mirrored piece in the display case…it said “Monte’s Club”!! George asked the clerk to show it to us, and he pulled it out…and another piece that was under it. The piece under it was an old advertising mirror from the Gem Bar!!! They were marked $40 each. George asked if the he could do any better on the price; he said that the lady who owned them was sick with cancer, and wasn’t answering her phone…nothing he could do. We bought them…of course!
We went to the Sundance Casino and played for awhile. Sundance gets kudos for actually giving me a real can of Diet Pepsi. We left the Sundance; time to hit the road. We were walking back to the car and I noticed a place called the Club Barber Shop…the address was 251 Bridge Street. I wanted to take a picture of the place, but it seemed like I had everything except my camera in my hands…so I didn’t take a picture. After settling into the car, I pulled out the laptop to see what I could find about Monte’s. Wait…the address was 251 Bridge Street! Since we hadn’t gone far, I tried to get George to turn around so I could take a picture of the place, but he wouldn’t. A missed opportunity… (In all fairness, that was probably the 30th time that I’d asked him to “go back! I need a picture!” He didn’t always say no.)
