’TWAS A RAINY SUMMER NIGHT IN COLORADO, (I DID WANT TO SAY GEORGIA)WHEN I PULLED INTO BLACK HAWK. I FELT LUCKY TO FIND A PARKING SPOT INSIDE A PARKING GARAGE. ANY WAY I STUMBLED INTO THE LODGE, AND THAT WOULD BE THE EXTENT OF MY HARVESTING FOR BLACK HAWK. (I DIDN’T KNOW IT AT THE TIME)
I GOT INTO ONE OF THE WILD POKER GAMES THAT PREVAILED THROUGH OUT COLORADO AT THAT TIME. AS I REMEMBER, IT WAS A $5 LIMIT WITH 5 RAISES. IT SEEMED LIKE IT WENT THE LIMIT EACH ROUND ON EACH HAND, WELL I LOST ABOUT TWO BILLS BEFORE I REALIZED IT WAS NOT MY NIGHT TO BE A SHOWDOWN WINNER AT THE HOLD’EM TABLE.
I DID CULL OUT THE CHIPS I NEEDED, WHICH WAS NOT TOO MANY. IT WAS STILL RAINING PITCHFORKS AND HAMMERHANDLES, AND I SLOWLY RESIGNED MY THINKING THAT THERE WOULD BE NO MORE HARVESTING IN BLACK HAWK.
THEN I TURNED MY ATTENTION TO FINDING A ROOM IT WAS GETTING VERY LATE OUT IN RAINY COLORADO. I MUST HAVE TRIED FOR AN HOUR OR MORE. NO LUCK ON GETTING A ROOM. AT THAT TIME I TOTAL GAVE UP THE IDEA OF TRYING TO DO ANY MORE HARVESTING, THIS RAINY NIGHT.
SO, I DROVE OUT OF THE BLACK HAWK AREA AND DOWN A VERY SCARY ROAD (AT LEAST AT NIGHT) INTO DENVER, FOUND A SUPER EIGHT THAT BACKED UP NEXT TO A TRUCKING COMPANY. DRIVERS WERE COMING AND GOING ALL NIGHT. I DID NOT GET MUCH SLEEP THAT NIGHT, BUT I DID GET ENOUGH CHIPS TO LAST ME A WHILE. THEY PROBABLY COST ME $20 EACH, BUT IF YOU PLAY; SOMETIMES YOU GOTTA PAY.
VERY EARLY THE NEXT DAY AFTER A FREE BREAKFAST, I HEADED NORTH TOWARDS DEADWOOD…REGGIE
