Place was in the eastern hillside underneath the trestle. They were digging the foundation and road bed for the railroad, when they unearthed the body of old Pete. The grave was not the standard length as you can understand, it was picked and shoveled into the solid, rocky hill. How deep you ask, well, deep as it was a place for the old grouchy old timer. But, the grave was narrow. He wasn't laid out. He was kind of squeezing into it.
One, probably it was hot. 2nd, he was a loner and was known to be a ruff cuss, and 3rd, the ground was hard, really hard and after picking, well, that should do it for the old cuss. And that is the way they found old Pete.
