The Chip Guide is not making any assertions at this point about what they do or do not have. I don't believe anyone on the Chip Guide is an intellectual property expert. The Chip Guide has been advised, by a lawyer, that they must ask for people to give credit in order to protect the Guide from having someone else claim intellectual property rights in the images on the site and force it to shut down. I am not an expert in that area of the law. It is consistent with what I learned long ago, but I do not know the nuances, especially as they apply to the internet, which was not really much of an issue when I learned about intellectual property. In any case, the Chip Guide is only trying to protect against being shut down. The Chip Guide does not now, and never has had any plans to use the images on its site for any other purpose than they are already being used for. So, the Chip Guide is asking people to credit the site in order to protect whatever rights it has so it can continue to do what it has been doing. It doesn't matter to the Chip Guide what those rights are, as long as it is protected from being shut down.
This has all been said before. I am not sure why this is such an issue for you?
That being said, I do like many of your ideas, which I think the Chip Guide admins, or the MOGH board have to seriously consider.
