Hi Barry, What are the hosting costs of that platform?
Is it self hosted or cloud based? Do you pay storage fees by the Meg or Gig or something?
Do they maintain all the back of house for you automatically?? KEY: Is there support?
If y'all were going to move to a more modern platform Id suggest looking at the lowest maintenance approach.
PokerChipper.com is on Xenforo like PCF, PC is on a cloud based platform, not sure about PCF. Xenforo can look and act any way you want it to and there is a seperate forum with developers that can design anything you want or any look and feel. There is also may "themed" forum platforms designed for xenforo. It's worth a look, I launched mine for a number of reasons, data security was one.
Poke around PokerChipper it's free to join and very powerful on many levels and can also be monetized seamlessly if you so desire, They have friendly and available support and will answer any questions if asked. I have no intention of monetizing PC but you can poke around PCF, they do. On the cloud base side they automatically take care of all the maintenance so there's little to do behind the scenes except run the look, feel and design.
I currently pay $3000 per year total including the software and all updates and hosting through them. and if it gets to the point where I need more storage it is very reasonably priced.
There is many forums for forum admins and moderators also that are very helpful. I peeked in at your site and while a tad more modern that the current situation I'd consider a platform that is less maintenance and care taking, a better look and feel with easy to use interfaces behind the scenes. No disrespect intended. Just trying to be helpful. Changing a platform is a very big step and shouldn't be taken lightly and all the options considered.
Forum based sites are not the same as social media sites, they are designed for specific topic based use. If you want the robust features and social media look and feel I'd suggest a facebook group and then you're all set. thay have group admins and mods and the platform is facebook that everyone knows.
As far as this quite antiquated platform there is services that can memorialize the site reducing the cost to almost nothing but leaving it up the way it looked after the last post, Converting the data from this site to a different platform, if even possible would be an expensive and labor intense venture.
Again, all just suggestions, I'd hate to see a nice group make a rash decision and regret it.
They are at xenforo.com Im at PokerChipper.com and naturally PokerChipForum.com is the other site.
Trying to be helpful.
