CACHE CREEK CASINO WAS JUST A BUNCH OF TRAILERS PIECED TOGETHER WITH A HUGE BINGO HALL WHEN I FIRST VISITED IT IN THE EARLY 1990’s.
AT THAT TIME I WAS NOT EVEN COLLECTING CHIPS. I ONLY LIVED ABOUT 45 MINUTES AWAY FROM IT IN A LITTLE TOWN CALLED FAIRFIELD, CA. I WAS WORKING AT MARE ISLAND SUBMARINE BASE.
AROUND THE MILLENIUM, I PLANNED A TRIP TO DO A LITTLE HARVESTING WHILE ATTENDING THE NCAA MARCH MADNESS PLAYOFFS IN SACRAMENTO. WE HAD STAYED IN A MOTEL IN WOODLAND, WHICH WAS ABOUT HALF WAY IN BETWEEN THE TWO PLACES.
THE PLACE HAD GROWN BY LEAPS AND BOUNDS, AND I HEAR TODAY IT HAS A LARGE HOTEL AND HAS GROWN INTO A FULL BLOWN INDIAN CASINO WITH ALL THE AMENITIES.
WHILE WE WERE THERE IT WAS VERY GOOD TIMING, BECAUSE THERE WAS AN INEXPENSIVE TOURNAMENT THAT I TOOK ADVANTAGE OF. DID NOT MAKE ANY MONEY PLAYING THE TOURNAMENT, BUT THE FIRST HAND WAS VERY INTERESTING; ANOTHER PLAYER AND MYSELF BOTH RECEIVED POCKET ACES. OF COURSE, IT EVOLVED TO AN ALL IN AND WE SPLIT THE POT.
LATER, I GOT INTO A VERY LOOSE AGGRESSIVE HOLDEM GAME AND PAID FOR THE ENTIRE TRIPS EXPENSES. I HARVESTED AS MUCH AS I NEEDED AT THE TIME. BUT THAT WAS NOT ENOUGH FOR THE LONG HAUL.
ANOTHER SIDE NOTE, IS THIS IS WHERE I PLAYED MY FIRST LEGITIMATE POKER BEFORE MOVING TO THE SAN DIEGO AREA. AND A SIDE NOTE TO THE SIDE NOTE??? YES, THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED. THE VERY FIRST HAND THAT I PLAYED I WON; AT LEAST I THOUGHT I WON AND I WAS BACKED UP BY THE PLAYER NEXT TO ME, AFTER THE DEALER HAD SHOVED THE $22 POT OVER TO ONE OF THEIR LOCALS. THE PIT BOSS WAS CALLED OVER THE SCENERIO WAS EXPLAINED BY THE DEALER, THE PLAYER NEXT TO ME AND MYSELF. THE PIT BOSS WENT TO HIS PODIUM COUNTED OUT THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF CHIPS AND SET THE $22 DOWN IN FRONT OF ME, I THANKED HIM. HE DID THE RIGHT THING AND I ENJOYED THE REST OF MY FIRST REAL POKER NIGHT… REGGIE
