Also Joel, to be clear, I was not suggesting this message board become more like Poker Chip Forum, in fact they were not mentioned anywhere by me until you brought them up. My point is this message board could be tremendously improved and made more appealing to new singles collectors. I don’t understand the resistance to that. It sound like you see it as a competition or comparison with PCF, but that is not how I look at it. I just love poker chips and will go where needed to find them.
It’s my understanding one of the reasons, in addition to protecting its “intellectual property”, that attribution of photos is requested for Chip Guide pictures is to drive traffic and awareness to these sites. That’s great, but when it works and someone who has never heard or been here arrives, don’t you want them to be able to intuitively and easily explore, use, enjoy, maybe join the club, and do all of the other things that ostensibly are trying to be accomplished by drawing new eyes to these sites to begin with? Presenting a new arrival with a fresh, easily understood and navigated site would seem to further such goals, not hinder them. Instead, as you say, the are presented with an “ancient” interface that works, kind of like my trusty Betamax, just not anywhere as well as it could.
I see conversations on here about people worried what’s going to happen in 30 years with this chip or that chip, and how different things could affect their collections etc. etc. If this hobby cannot continue growing with new members there won’t be anything to worry about in 30 years because a new generation was not engaged and brought into the hobby and won’t care about any of this. Other than Oscar, I’m wondering how many “youngsters” are on here. I know Michael kind of inferred I might be a youngster (I wish) but I’m in my 50s…I really hope that doesn’t make me a youngster on here…lol. Anyhow, that is the viewpoint I am coming from.
