Found in a Paris shop I was doing business with in the early-90's, and it was a big hit with those in Europe who collected France. One other was found years later and I have not heard of any more being found, since.
Though we never figured out what it was used for or why it was hand painted, I kind of think it's the results of what a young American did while living in Nice, with her or his family...
The history of the American built casinos in the south of France involving Gould, is a bit much to mention here, along with the changes of the property in the early-30's, and the spelling error made kind of suggests it wasn't by a Frencn person. The only thing we do not know is who was still actively connected at the time... Members of the Gould family had some pretty heavy chips in their day...
Anyway, the piece is available in balance for a nice oval plaque used in town and seen below the Med.
