Yes, Joel. I was a regular at Katz’s before I went vegetarian. The odd setup there is you are given a ticket when you walk in, and every food item has its own counter, ie: sandwiches here, fries there, etc. every time you order and take possession of a food item, it is marked on that ticket. It is coded so only the cashier knows what it is. You pick out your seat yourself, and upon exiting, you present your ticket and the cashier tells you how much you owe. Lord knows what happens if you should lose your ticket. Not sure if this unusual system is still used, but I recently visited an Italian restaurant in London that used the same system: one counter for pastas, one for pizzas, etc. and you paid on the way out.
