Over the years there have been postings regarding why so and so is not in the HOF.
Or, a HOF member posting that so and so should be in the HOF – like the membership has something to do about that.
Since this secret society has the power to choose who is allowed to be bestowed the honor of HOF, nothing will change regarding those who deserve to be voted in.
The entire process is a secret. CCA members are allowed to nominate a person and explain why he/she is deserving of this honor. However, outside of the HOF members no one knows who was nominated – It’s a SECRET.
Then, the HOF members vote on who is deserving of those nominated – but there is no accountability outside of the HOF members as to how the votes are given to a nominee, in fact, my understanding is the Chairman of the HOF is the only one who tallies the votes – again it’s a SECRET.
The HOF members have a meeting during the annual convention but its open only to the HOF members and what is discussed is a SECRET.
Personally, I am resigned to the fact that the HOF is more of a friends being allowed in than those equally or more deserving. The typical HOF response when a person is not voted in is that they need to be nominated. Again, the membership is not allowed to even see who was nominated.
I am not implying that the current HOF members do not deserve this honor, personally I know some as to what they have done for the CCA, others I rely on what others tell me or I read. I do believe there are so many others that deserve this honor.
Personally, over the years I have nominated Sheldon Smith to the HOF, however, Sheldon didn’t always play well with others, but he volunteered for all kinds of positions and did a lot for the club and collecting in general. But I know he will never get into the HOF because some people didn’t like him, in my opinion.
So, is it time to make the HOF nominations public and voted on by the membership or should it remain a secret society. I look forward to thoughtful discussion and opinions.
