Only a small handful of the 3 lowest denominations had ever come onto the market over the years and just 1 of the £10’s had been found too.
These used to go for "decent" prices as they were the only ones that had ever been found and offered for sale to collectors. Seems it was the only way that Bond fans could get something from Le Cercle as seen in Dr No although only the £1 was actually "seen" onscreen (or indeed from the correct period). They weren't interested in the LGK chips which were the only other things that were available from the club.
Obviously, this changed with the 2019 find and now the complete set is known and pictured here.
Every person that had ever bought a jeton from me were offered the set cheaply or for free (and an extremely good deal on the plaques) by way of recompense as the prices went through the floor after the find. Took me a while to go through all of my feedback to contact them but I felt it was the right thing to do. There are a couple of other people that still get VERY good prices for the £1 but I've priced them much lower as I have lots of them, they don't but still..........I offer the set at a much lower price than their £1's sell for but then I describe them correctly.
The £1 was made for the opening of the casino and the others were made at various times later. The £1 is the only one that seems to "suffer from age" as lots have "shrunk" and deteriorated in the same way as many of the older Monaco (and French) jetons have. I'm not sure if it's because of the red colour or that they were the earliest but the 2 lower denominations that were made just a couple of years later have aged much better.
Only the £5 and £10 have the building on the back (as you can see) and they are the same colours as the plaques from 1961 which is kind of neat, I think.
