I have the Global Entry card
In Response To: Travel question ()

There are a number of “TSA-pre” type services so make sure you get one that makes sense for you. I went with “Global Entry”. I was offered full reimbursement by Capital One (credit card). Took a few months for them to process my application and do the background check, after which I needed to go to an in-person interview, which can be scheduled but only at select airports OR any time you return from an international flight. They give you a limited amount of time (60 days?) to complete the interview. In my case, this was during COVID and even though they kept extending the time to complete the interview, I was nervous that they wouldn’t keep doing it so I drove to S.F. from Reno and got it done (We did other things on the trip so it wasn’t JUST for that). Interview was more to just present yourself in person, let them take a photo, and ask a few banal questions. In and out in 15 minutes.

Now here’s the kicker. My wife didn’t see value in it (Reno airport moves you through security pretty quickly), so, being a good husband, I don’t use my privileges and stand in the peasants line with her. Naturally, I remind her every chance I get to look over at the card-carrying elite people who get to leave their shoes, belts, and hats on. She decided to get her global entry card now as well. Not because she sees value in it. She just wants to shut me up.
