Hi David. I have some solutions for you. You could replace your software with the software I used (it's free). You could give/donate/sell your domain to the club and if the board decides I'd make a good webmaster, you/they can hand them over to me and I'll point them at the new software. I'm not "taking" any members at all - just offering an alternative. People are free to participate in yours and mine separately or together. Not much different than those who post links to their personal domains where they buy/sell chips or have their own discussion boards. So, I'm not taking members any more than you're "taking" members from the CCA. You just offer a more attractive site on chipboard.com because of the buying/selling restriction. I'm just trying to offer an overall more pleasant experience that meets the demands of the people that like to chat with each other. If they like it, seems reasonable that the club (and maybe you) should consider that to be a mandate for change.
My site will have no ads and therefore not be a revenue generator/money maker. If my new site costs you revenue, I apologize as I didn't know this site was a for-profit venture and you were making money off of our participation.
You may recall that I offered to help you do the same to the chipboard and the club site. I think that was over a year ago, right? I also offered to look at your code, offered to host the various club and non-club sites, look at your linux setup, speed up the server, make it so nightly maintenance wasn't required, help you admin things, and more or less anything else you needed tech help with. You [politely] declined my offer, stating that what you were using was very complicated, proprietary, and couldn't be changed. That's fine. Mine is not proprietary, not complicated, easy to adapt, and CAN be changed. And I can and will invite others to help administer the site.
As for my offer to serve as Secretary, I rescind it. Not because of any animosity or whatever. I think that, should you win, you should appoint Oscar to be Secretary. I actually meant to do that yesterday, but forgot.
Please don't view this as an adversarial move. I'm just responding to the wants and needs of the membership, most of whom are here.
