Membership Officer for six or so years. We had individuals AND groups of people offering to pay up to half of a new member's annual dues. Andy Hughes used to do even better than that -- he would pay for part of the dues and then would send the new member that signed up under Andy's name six or eight or ten new Las Vegas $1 chips. Unfortunately, the usual outcome for the majority of these discounted (or sometimes almost FREE) memberships was "one & done". These new members rarely participated and even more rarely renewed.
You have to have the "bug". Lots of people don't collect ANYTHING. My daughter loved being a part of the club, still has wonderful memories of many of my/our club friends...but she has no desire to collect chips. Now Disney or Harry Potter pins -- that's another story. . She has a huge collection of those pins and there is a HUGE collector base for those (she attends pin trading sessions 8-10 times a year)...but not so much for chips. It's not so much getting younger people interested in collecting, it's getting them interested in collecting CHIPS -- not such an easy task.
As a 20 year member of this club, I appreciate the time & thought that you put into this hobby. I look forward to seeing you in June, Barry.
