Steve, the club constitution defines there are 5 board members. The only way to change that is for someone to submit a constitutional amendment which has to be passed by a 2/3 majority of those club members voting (every member has to have the opportunity to vote). No board positions are appointed, they are all elected.
That is the way the constitution was drafted and filed by the founding members. It's not something the board has the ability to change.
I would love to see younger people engaged in many of the club roles but in a lot of cases, as Archie alludes to, experience is a necessity. Engaging face to face with senior Casino execs for one.
In recent years the club has had difficulty in recruiting volunteers 'at any level'. Many people speak up but are not prepared to take on what is for some of us at least 3 hours of every working day.
