I posted this above as well but I will repost here. I definitely do not want ChipGuide to be shutdown. Just to have the legalities of the photos better explained for any future ramifications.
Of course I do not object to anyone enforcing ChipGuide credit to a copied photo. It's just that the hypocrisy of a stringent attitude to abide by the rules by the ChipGuide when it has "appropriated" many images itself is hard to stomach sometimes. I have since spoken to Mr Kaplan privately and we have agreed to an open line of communication to work on the matter for both submitter and host.
ChipGuide has done nothing yet I would say that I object to...but it is the precedent that is being set that after they have cropped and added a meta tag to a submitted photo it has become something entirely new for them to use as they see fit. Chipguide could theoretically produce a book or million dollar NFT with "their" version of my photo and there would be nothing I could do to stop it if this claim to new copyright is not challenged here and now.
