Jeez ... I expected this group of 'ol farts to remember the Bally Bingo payout pinball machines. Normally on nickels, they were mullti-coin machines and the odds and "features" increased as you pumped 'em up with coins. The games paid-out in coin when you hit the right numbered holes in the playfield.
The Fremont in downtown Las Vegas had a row of 'em in a corridor near the rear exit. It smelled of beer and pis, and bums would hang there. I will never forget one night when my buddy and I were playing there and decided to cash-out. the meter that controlled payouts got stuck for about a minute and it was raining nickels. After a while it kicked back in and counted down the remainder.
