Worst part about fires, even if objects escaped unburned, it is almost impossible to remove the smell of the fire from them. I once landed the job of replacing every file in a large downtown law firm's library where there had been a fire on another floor in the high-rise. Smoke got in through the vents and everything just reeked. Also there was toxic soot on most items.* I was kept busy for weeks. My sympathies as to your sister and I hope you get back on your feet soon, although nothing really can make things 100% whole again.
