We did not book the cheapest Southwest flights (Cindy is coming and she refuses to get up at 2:30 AM just to go to the airport!) but I did try to keep it reasonable. They want over $400 ONE WAY for some flights convention week. I ended up paying over $1000 for our two flights. Okay it did not cost that much since we got bumped going home last year and that covered 75% of the cost. Of course that bump night also was the night that we could not find a room in Kansas City. No rooms within 100 miles, no flights available, no rental cars available. We finally got incredibly "lucky" in that one person at a local hotel said that a kid had rented a room but his credit card was denied so she gave me his reservation. The room cost $200 for the night plus the $50 Uber drive to get there (it was on the far side of town from the airport).
