Re: Best Ever!
In Response To: Re: Best Ever! ()

Interestingly enough, in the 2019 AFC Conference Championship game, the Chiefs came out on the losing end of the same OT rule when they got beat by the Patriots. In the subsequent offseason, the Chiefs made a proposal to change the rule n the interest of fairness so that both teams would have a chance to possess the ball at least one time and the game would not end if the first team scored a touchdown. It was never voted on by the 32 team owners because it was clear that it wouldn't be supported by the required 75% of the team owners. Kansas City's rules proposal read as follows:

"By Kansas City; to amend Rule 16 to (1) allow both teams the opportunity to possess the ball at least one time in overtime, even if the first team to possess the ball in overtime scores a touchdown; (2) eliminate overtime for preseason; and (3) eliminate overtime coin toss so that winner of initial coin toss to begin game may choose whether to kick or receive, or which goal to defend."
